On Friday our 'friend brave ' came to stay with us. He was the one with the courage to join Mr Him on the John Soanes trip recently. We took friend brave to wander around a village very close to us, Cuckfield. Pronounced 'cookfield'.
Our wander took us to the church and I was entranced by the ceiling. Cuckfield church dates back to 1200. More information here
I noticed that the houses in the church courtyard had decorated for Easter. This is so rare in the UK that I've never seen it before. It's like the number 9 bus, you never see it then 3 come along at once.
A Stroll of Lostness in the back lanes behind the church and we saw an orchard in blossom and further along this old shepherds wagon.
A pretty walk on a pleasant Good Friday.
In the evening we showed our Friend Brave how to shop in our town.
and the service offered by the supermarket after a visit to the winebar. I think he will visit our town again.
What a wonderful way to spend the day winding it up at the wine bar !.
ReplyDeleteSure he had a wonderful time, what an old church, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful old church. We have nothing that dates back to 1200, except for the natural features of the land. Even then, they've probably changed a lot. Many people here do decorate for Easter. Two favourites are Easter wreaths on the door and little coloured plastic eggs hanging from a tree close to the house (our trees will not have any leaves yet at this time of year). What store is that, that has a wine bar??? -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThat's Waitrose. It opened recently. There was one lady in there on opening day quite plastered by 7pm.
DeleteAnd if you drink too much, the cashier will carry you to your car? Gawd, you Brits know how to do things. Dogs in pubs and wine bars in supermarkets!
ReplyDeleteWho says we can't do Brexit 😀
DeleteNot far from my old home town of Horsham. Beautiful ceiling in that church.
ReplyDeleteMr Him grew up in Horsham and miss 22 works there. I've done a few posts on Horsham.
DeleteLove that ceiling.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a truly wonderful day - and wine o'clock to finish? Bliss.
Yes it was lovely
DeleteSome do now do a smattering of decoration indoors but I've never seen one house decorated externally, let alone three. So lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd how sophisticated, sipping on a chilled wine whilst your car boot is invisibly loaded. Your friend won't want to leave.
I think it's us that's invisibly loaded, into the car 😀
